In our pre-school room we care for children aged 3-5 years. We take a maximum of 30 children at any one time and the ratio within this room is 1 adult to 8 children. In this room our focus is Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing and helping preparing your child for School.
At aged three your child will now follow the Curriculum for Excellence which is the National Curriculum for 3-18 year old's in Scotland. It represents Scotland’s vision for education of all children. It aims to raise standards, improve knowledge and develop skills. Ensuring that every child should experience a broad education that develops skills for learning, for life, and work with a real focus on literacy and numeracy and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.
Within the Curriculum for Excellence it aims to develop four capacities helping children to become Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors. The Curriculum breaks down into eight curriculum areas which are Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing, Expressive Arts, Sciences, Technologies, Religious and Moral education and Social Studies. Each of these curriculum areas has outcomes and experiences we promote during planned experiences with your child to help them build their knowledge and they contributes to the four capacities.
We also incorporate the principles of GIRFEC into our planning process to ensure that we meet the needs of all the children in our care.
Through a play based curriculum staff will plan a wealth of opportunities outdoor and indoor supporting your child to express him/herself, build independence, solve problems, make choices and decisions and develop new skills.
